On The Streets Art Basel 2009 pt.2
So Basel is this week and Wynwood is the proverbial disturbed bees nest. It seems that you can find action in almost every corner of the Art District. I think the next couple of days should be interesting...

Eat Your Art Out
This show is a collection of diverse street, visionary, surreal, and tattoo art created by emerging artists whose vision encompasses erasing the barrier that separates the affluent art scene from the underground art world.
Eat Your Art Out is a movement toward bringing in emerging artists to push the envelope outside mainstream art and make it socially warranted in today’s art scene. Artists from a variety of artistic genres have collaborated together for one week to exhibit a dynamic fusion of diverse mediums presented on canvas, multimedia, sculptures, installations and photography.
Participating artists include: Chet Zar, Edgar Velasquez, Crome, Abstrk, Nineteen, AS1, Quake, Evils, Dekal, Gere, Juan Velasquez, Michael D. Walsh, Billi Kid, Joshua Noblock, Brandon Opalka, Ryan Mackeen, Seth Mathurin, Jose Mertz, Enve, Michael Lee Suarez, Evo, and John Vale.
The exhibition includes a collaboration with various other art groups including Primary Flights, Super Rad Toys and Modani Furniture.
“The common goal here is to showcase subversive artworks and make a statement in today’s conventional art scene,” says Evils of the Miami Style Graffiti (MSG) Cartel.

REMINDER: Devil's Disciple by Neckface at OHWOW
Neckface will turn Miami inside out for his premiere solo exhibition in the Magic City. This Halloween night, Neckface will deconstruct all 10,000 square feet of O.H.W.O.W. and build a world like no other. Featuring a large-scale haunted house installation, complete with Neckface's iconic imagery, the Devil’s Disciple exhibition is designed to frighten viewers as they enter the space.
The crux of the exhibition though will surely be Neckface's new work. A deviation from the norm, it is chock-full of his signature imagery interweaved with a personal dimension that is much more palpable in the paintings. After so many years of crafting a persona and building up walls around himself and his moniker, the reclusive Neckface has finally cracked open the door ever so slightly and let us into his world.

Museum of Everything in London
"The boundary between 'normal' primitive art and the artistry of the insane is blurry," says Bruno Bischofberger, an art dealer based in Zurich with a sizeable collection of folk art. Yet "outsider art" is distinct from folk art, he explains, as it is often associated with the mentally ill. Indeed, many of the biggest discoveries of the genre were found in the archives of psychiatric hospitals.
This is perhaps why the term "outsider" irks James Brett, a filmmaker, entrepreneur and the founder of Britain's first museum dedicated to the work of non-traditional artists. The Museum of Everything opened its doors in London's Primrose Hill neighbourhood on October 14th, timed to coincide with London's Frieze Art Fair. But unlike the preening, self-conscious types who frequent the parties and gallery stalls of this contemporary-art extravaganza, Brett's museum is all about art created by people without formal training, who live "outside our modern society". Housed in a former dairy, the collection includes more than 200 paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations by around 95 artists, all of whom simply felt compelled to make something.

Portraits by Minjae Lee
Minjae Lee is a young South Korean artist whose work expresses a semi-disturbing inner tension that is tough to ignore, even if you feel that you'd like to. It draws you in with its powerful colors, halting imagery and clever juxtaposition of beauty, innocence and fragility with brash, loud and aggressive.

Smooth & Smoothie by Florent Degourc
French designer Florent Degourc takes a playful approach to design, as demonstrated in this table – bench set entitled Smooth & Smoothie. First seen on TrendsNow, the set is almost reminiscent of bubble gum, and is made of a mixture polyurethane foam and resin coating, allowing for the ‘melted’ effect, yet durable enough for everyday use. This combo set could easily work inside and out, or as a perfect addition to your cracked out Willy Wonka room.

JET AIRLINERS by Josef Hoflehner
Photographer Josef Hoflehner's book JET LINERS is a collection of black and white photographs of Jet Liners taken from beaches all around the world including my home town of Miami. I've taken shots myself of planes coming in or taken off while soaking up sun but non comparable to those shot by Hoflehner. To me this book is another item on my "Damn! I should have followed through with that" list because i've had the idea for the same concept but... Anyways, the book is filled with some amazing shots and definitely worth checking out. Here are a few images from JET AIRLINERS.

Francoise Nielly
Françoise Nielly’s massive, colorful portraits are delicious to look at. Even more wonderful – and particularly infuriating to those of us who have timidly dabbled in painting – is to watch her create them. In a beautiful video posted on her site, she, in her confident, strong hand, wields her painting knife shaped like a miniature garden trowel, and makes painting look easy like cake frosting. She paints her vivid, passionate canvases — some as large as 78 x 25 inches (195 x 62 centimeters) -- from black-and-white photos, further proof of her unfailing ability to interpret light, shadow, hue and tone by applying brilliant colors and daring strokes.
Born in Marseille, brought up near Cannes and Saint-Tropez, and now living in Paris, Nielly is at home among bold contrast and dazzling light. To add to her likability, here is the list of her loves: Life, wide open spaces, sushi, blue lagoons, the Internet, humor, books, Paris, New York and Vancouver. - Tuija Seipell

NECKFACE at O.H.W.O.W
Neckface will turn Miami inside out for his premiere solo exhibition in the Magic City. This Halloween night, Neckface will deconstruct all 10,000 square feet of O.H.W.O.W. and build a world like no other. Featuring a large-scale haunted house installation, complete with Neckface's iconic imagery, the Devil’s Disciple exhibition is designed to frighten viewers as they enter the space.

With the introduction of historical and pop culture references into the visual storytelling, the paintings have grown more complex and more intricate. This newer imagery is balanced by considered application of wit throughout the work in the signature Neckface hand style. In addition to the paintings, a series of metal mask sculptures will be on display. Reminiscent of African Woyo masks, Neckface reworks the sculptures with sharp edges and creates an object that is distinctly contemporary and unmistakably his.
There's no doubt that Devil’s Disciple will be a breakout exhibition for Neckface. The work created will surely be considered his finest to date and is anticipated to redefine him and endear him to a whole new legion of fans.via O.H.W.O.W

Rest In Peace Jose "Nasty Nes" Carrera
I originally met Jose while working on a mural together in Little Haiti in the summer of 2004. He had recently been released from prison after serving a 4 year bid for attempted murder. You wouldn't have guessed it because he was the nicest dude. He always had a smile on his face and was more than happy to give us younger dudes advise. He would tell us stories about the old school days and could not stop talking about his children who were the most important thing in his life and cared about more than anything in this world.
Not only was Jose a talented graffiti artist, he was also an incredible tattoo artist. Jose had done some work on my friend Adam and I was blown away by his color techniques and unique style. I tried to get in some work from him but due to schedule conflicts we were never able to link up, something that I will now regret for the rest of my life. In a year that seems to have had way too many deaths, none, not even the passing of Michael Jackson, seem as significant as this one. Jose "Nasty Nes" Carrera. MSG crew and Ocho Placas fam FOREVER.

Pantone Paint
Europe has been on the forefront of developing spray paint for the purposes of art as opposed to American companies who ignore the fact that 45% of its consumers use their product for Graffiti/Street Art. While the PANTONECANS have a decent design and concept, it's a little impractical.
The PANTONECANS come in CMYK or pantones, and traditionally these 4 colors were mixed to make and create every tone or color in the spectrum using ink and usually for purposes of print. Spray paint on the other hand, is a unique opaque medium that is designed to dry quickly and meant to cover. Even though there are ways to mix spray paint to create new colors, it is a very difficult and tedious procedure. Non-the-less, the PANTONECANS are still a dope idea however it's application is a bit ill-thought.

Live Zepplin
This cocoon for weekend living is situated in a bushy coastal hamlet on the Great Ocean Road. The steepness of the site, the dramatic views and the sometimes harsh climate resulted in a object house that whilst protecting from the elements, opened one side to the landscape. In principle this is a matchbox inside an egg, a rectangle within an oval. Inside, the spaces dovetail together with the economic precision of a small boat or caravan.
The light weight monocoque structure is a hybrid of techniques appropriated from boat building and aircraft engineering.
The path to building this home was one of unleashing the pragmatic inside the poetic.
The concept of using old structures or transportation vehicles to covert into living spaces is nothing new. However, this is the first Zepplin i've seen that has been converted into a modern living space. Kudos to the designers and architects of this project Bellemo & Cat of Australia.

R.I.P Dash "Sace" Snow 1981-2009
Dash Snow, born and raised in New York City, has regularly been associated with the “downtown scene,” referring to a sort of second coming of 1960s and 70s Warhol-era New York. Snow, who at a young age ran away from home, began to use drugs heavily, and joined a graffiti crew, started documenting his life at age 16 through Polaroid photographs.
Often depicting self-destructive escapades, Snow’s photographs captured the energy and lives of those around him. .
